Story
In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, said that Stranger Things season 4 remix of Journey’s 1980s smash hit “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)”. did pretty much what he originally wanted done in the 1980s, but lacked the technology. Perry was so impressed that he even helped create a remix.
Eleven: Friends Don’t Lie
Many episodes show people “interrupting”; someone is talking on a two-way radio or CB – that is, one person is talking/transmitting and the other person is transmitting to interrupt them, and the other person hears this interruption and stops transmitting. This has been done several times through children’s CB radios and radios used by the police. Those radios – the CB and police radios of the era from the show – don’t work like that. If you’re sending and someone else is transmitting, you won’t hear them.

Stranger Things’ opening titles and fonts mimic the brightness and look of the opening credits of the 1980s TV series. Stranger Things (Title Sequence & End Credits Theme) Written & performed by Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein. Story-wise, there’s no reason for Stranger Things to take place in the 1980s. But the ’80s vibe — ringing phones, chain smoking, Winona Ryder — is there to inspire this movie, which is pretty much every ’80s supernatural movie that focuses on kids.
ET, Poltergeist, that sort of thing
The amazing thing is that this tribute is dead. It’s not just the clothes and the hair, but the acting style, the way the scripts are written, the structure, all of that is a source of inspiration. You’ve got young rambunctious kids, lecherous, mistrustful teenagers, a monster, a mysterious one with powers, bad people in science and/or government, a conflicted researcher, a tearful mother. You could argue that this whole season is just a pastiche of recycled elements, and I wouldn’t disagree, but it certainly doesn’t feel like a copycat, but like something from that era, like the writers in 1985.
would have been in a coma, woke up and got to work
While it doesn’t have the lofty style of Spielberg’s films, which is a major influence, it has likability. The story is consistently engaging and entertaining, the acting is excellent, and the film has plenty of laughs and tears.
