A cycle of paternalism, inheritance and generational trauma through the prism of Irish culture
Story
An Irish shepherd family is torn apart on multiple fronts: internal strife, family feuds, rivalry with another farmer. Paul Mescal and Tom Burke were originally cast in the lead roles, but they both dropped out after the project stalled and were replaced by Barry Keoghan and Christopher.
CORK FILM FEST – #3 (PREMIER + Q&A) A fast-paced revenge film that never has a dull moment and somehow manages to pull off the impossible, in my opinion
Abbott.. 69.
They both do far more with their roles than anyone else
The entire cast does a fantastic job, but the standouts have to be Nora-Jane Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbot (whose accent is unreal for an American). The themes of abuse, violence, and the inability to communicate properly are very much ingrained.
I’m really excited to revisit this in the general release
They’re still very relevant in our world right now, so they really spoke to me.
