Due to the film’s subject matter, the Hungarian government did not provide funding for the film, so it had a small budget and crew
Story
Abel is a high school student trying to focus on his final exams while being madly in love with his best friend Janka.
Most of the actors in the film are the writer-director, friends, students or teachers of Gábor Reisz
Although the synopsis emphasizes the love story, the film is mainly about the problems of a divided society and how a small misfortune can go a long way when it becomes political.
All of this is beautifully integrated into the graduation story of love, exams and family relationships
The story is very Hungarian, but it could be equally interesting to an international audience, especially those where political divisions are affecting all parts of society.
We definitely recommend it (as well as Gábor Reisz’s two previous films)
The film was shot on a very low budget, with virtually no funding, but the acting is brilliant and the captivating story really makes you forget that fact.
