A grief therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives — including his own. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they landed Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn him down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been brought on, sparking interest from other notable actors.

Ultimately, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him for the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great too.
And Jessica is perfect
He has the weird, goofy energy of confidence needed for the role. Her humor is perfect for the dialogue. This is the new way to do situational dramas. No real punch lines, just endearing personalities with a pinch of weirdness, and family circumstances that are just a little over the top, but still relatable.
It’s just not possible
Sure, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. You’d lose your license immediately. But we allow metaphorical situations in dramas. And in this storyline, we feel a strong determination in the decisions.
Other critics apparently had difficulty
We have to give the writers the upper hand and try to get to the point. For me, it’s easy and fun.
